Ready for Grinding

Above is an illustration showing part of the actual process of mixing Staffordshire Clays.

Mwasuring is done by the barrow load, that is to say, if the goods being manufactured need a five clay mixture, one barrow load of each of the requisite clays is taken from the bays, tipped into the trucks, and properly mixed. The mixture is then hauled to the grinding sheds at the top, so that the clays can be ground ready for the souring process.

Correct colouring depends chiefly upon successful mixing and firing, and oft-times in executing orders for goods of a special colour, numerous tests have to be carried out before the correct mixture can be obtained.

At some future date you may need quotations for goods to special order and in this direction the experienced organisation at the Springfield Tileries is always willing to help you.
