Charles Alfieri (1828-94) Schoolmaster, apparently many prominent Potteries people attended the 'Northwood classical and commercial academy'
'Alfieri's Academy' was a two-storied stucco house with 'Gothic' features in Birch Street, Northwood.

c1820 Charles Alfieri was born about 1828 in Soho, London. His father Antonio B C Alfieri retired from the Italian army made a living as a linguist.
1852 Charles Alfieri founded a boarding school in Northwood, Hanley known as the 'Northwood classical and commercial academy'
1855 C A married Elizabeth Julia ne้ Marriner
1871 a the time of this census Charles and Elizabeth were living at the academy which was in Birch Street, Northwood. 
They lived there with 7 children and 5 school boarders all of whom were born in or near the Potteries.
1881  by the time of this census Charles had remarried - his wife was given as a 36 year old named Harriett. 
There were only 3 boarding scholars (again all of whom were born in or near the Potteries, the remainder of the pupils were day scholars.
1894 The academy continued until 1894 when Charles retired to the south of England. 
1894 Charles Alfieri died at Southsea in June 1894 - he was buried in Hanley cemetery.

Charles Alfieri was for a number of years the president of the North Staffordshire Photographic Society, he had an interest in the Potteries 'Mechanics Institute'.
He was a churchwarden at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Lower Mayer Street, Northwood.
