Church Street, Stoke, Stoke-on-Trent

Church Street joins the road from Newcastle-under-Lyme (Hartshill Road) with the road to Fenton & Longton (City Road), although because the Stoke streets are now one-way traffic it is not possible to take this direct route from Newcastle to Fenton.

On the 1898 OS map going toward Newcastle Church Street gave way to the High Street and then the bank to Hartshill was named Stoke Road (High Street and Stoke Road now both named Hartshill Road). Towards Fenton Church Street has now been shortened by the large roundabout installed on the 'Queensway' dual carriageway, on the 1898 OS the present City Road was known as High Street West.
