Leaving the hollowware shop the ware is taken to the kiln shop for firing

 

Gas fired kilns are used in place of the old coal fired bottle kilns
Gas fired kilns are used in place of 
the old coal fired bottle kilns.
These gas kilns are more efficient, flexible and environmentally
friendly - but they are not as interesting or visually
appealing as the coal fired bottle kiln 

 

Ware which has been fired is known as biscuit
Ware which has been fired is known as biscuit -
it is hard but porous  - and needs 
decorating and glazing
