Locks on the Caldon canal, just by the pottery works location

The height difference between the canal and present college

Original the canal and works were on the same level.
The OS maps show gates in the wall shown in the centre of the picture,
also there were no locks needed on the canal.
Over the years subsidence has caused a change in ground levels so
the college is some 10 foot (3 meters) below the canal and locks
have had to be introduced in the canal.
