Location: STOKE ON TRENT SJ84NE NEWCASTLE STREET, Longport
Description:  Pair of warehouses, now in use as a boatyard premises. Circa 1840

These warehouses at Longport Wharf (Newcastle Street) are situated alongside the Trent and Mersey Canal.

They were used for transporting raw materials and manufactured goods to and from Tunstall and Burslem. They were owned by The Mersey, Weaver & Ship Canal Co. This company carried a wide range of cargo from Weston Point, Runcorn to the Potteries which were unloaded here or at their Colonial wharf at Brownhills near Tunstall. 


Pair of warehouses, now in use as a boatyard premises. Circa 1840.

Brick with plain tiled roofs. Each is 2 storeyed, and 7 bays, divided by full height pilasters. The 2 outer bays have cast iron windows to ground floor, and in the inner bay, a semi-circular arched recess at first floor level (one infilled).

Central bay has blank lower storey, and oculus to first floor. Flanking bays have wide entrance arches and oculi over. Overhanging eaves.
