1881 At the time of the 1881 census he was lodging at 14 Elm Street and gave his occupation as "Theatrical Manager Service"
1888 He leased the Queen's Theatre in Longton.
1890 James Elphinestone (Jnr) was declared bankrupt (which he blamed on the high rent he was charged on the Queen's Theatre)
  Later JE ran the Lyceum Theatre in Stafford - this venture was also unsuccessful.
