Central Forest Park Wheel
This photo taken at the junction of Union Street and Town Road.

The Central Forest Park was created on the 80-acre site of Hanley Deep Pit Colliery. The coal spoil tips were reshaped and grassed over, a lake was created and over 40,000 trees planted.
The scheme won first prise in a national award scheme which was sponsored by The Times newspaper and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

In the background can be seen the remains of the pit-head gear and building of the colliery.
