Hanford, situated between Trentham and Stoke, developed from a small rural village into a largely residential suburb as Stoke-on-Trent expanded during the 19th and 20th centuries.
Historically associated with farming and country estates, the area later grew through improved transport links and suburban housing development, while still retaining elements of its village character.
This page lists the present and historic streets of Hanford and links to descriptions of the origins of street names, old maps, local developments, and the changing character of the district over time. From old village lanes and historic farms to modern residential roads, the streets of Hanford reflect the gradual transition from rural settlement to suburban community.
Today, Hanford is mainly residential in character, with many streets still preserving traces of the district’s earlier rural landscape and historic connections with the southern Potteries.
