Sandyford Streets Past & Present

Sandyford, in the north-west of Stoke-on-Trent near Tunstall and Burslem, developed from a rural landscape of fields and scattered farmsteads into a residential district during the 19th and 20th centuries. The area gradually expanded as the Potteries grew, with new housing and local roads extending into what was once open countryside between the northern towns.

This page lists the present and historic streets of Sandyford and links to descriptions of the origins of street names, old maps, local developments, and the changing character of the district over time. From former field boundaries and rural lanes to later residential streets and housing estates, the streets of Sandyford reflect the northern expansion of Stoke-on-Trent.

Today, Sandyford is mainly residential in character, with its street layout still reflecting traces of its earlier rural landscape and the gradual development of the area within the wider Potteries.
