Leaving the flatware and hollow ware shops the dried ware is taken to the kiln shop for firing

 

Gas fired kilns are used in place of the old coal fired bottle kilns
Gas fired kilns are used in place of the old coal fired bottle kilns.

These gas kilns are more efficient, flexible and environmentally
friendly - but they are not as interesting or visually
appealing as the coal fired bottle kiln
 

 

Pottery which has been fired is known as biscuit ware
Pottery which has been fired is known as biscuit ware

buscuit ware is hard but porous  - and needs decorating and glazing
before firing a second time
