The influence of the North Staffordshire Potteries in East Liverpool, Ohio, USA

The most important industry of East Liverpool in the United States of America became the manufacture of pottery. Its beginning were found in the emigration of potters from the North Staffordshire potteries are of Stoke-on-Trent.

  • English immigrant James Bennett from North Staffordshire became East Liverpool's first successful pottery manufacturer in 1840.

  • Many streets in East Liverpool were named to reflect background the founders from the North Staffordshire pottery industry, such as Dresden Avenue, Etruria Street, Wedgwood Street and Ceramic Street.
