Decorators of Bone china at Normacot Road, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, England
  • The business was founded by Les Lockett in 1946 specialising in silk screen printing and decorating of bone china.

  • After serving in the 156th Parachute Battalion during WWII, Les Lockett returned to Stoke-on-Trent, and started work for his uncle, delivering coal to the pottery firms by horse and cart.
He very quickly realised that there seemed to be a better living to be had in pottery than coal.

Together with a Joe Edwards from Sheffield they agreed to form a business that would supply household tableware in the form of pottery and cutlery. Les would produce the pottery, and Joe, being from Sheffield would supply the cutlery, and the name of Edwards & Lockett was born.

However, at the 11th hour, and after Les Lockett had rented a small premises, opened a bank account, and had signage and stationary printed, Joe Edwards pulled out of the deal.
Due to a lack of funds, and unable to afford the cost of changing everything, the name of Edwards & Lockett stayed, although there has never been an Edwards involved in the business.

  • The company was incorporated in 2002. The directors being Mr. Leslie (Les) Lockett, David William Lockett, Graham Edwin Lockett, Andrew Frederick Lockett and Mrs. Jean Lockett.

  • Les Lockett (the founder) died in 2009, aged 88.

  • The business was active as of 2022 and still under family control - web site: edwardianchina.co.uk
