  • Federated Potteries Co Ltd was formed in 1982 - member companies being W. H. Grindley & Co Ltd, Cartwright & Edwards Ltd, Barker Bros, Weymek Pottery. These member companies were part of the Clough Group - later Grindley of Stoke (Ceramics) Ltd.

  • Federated Potteries Co Ltd was owned by the life/pension company United Kingdom Provident Institution.

  • 1981 Roy Midwinter left the Wedgwood Group (who had in 1970 acquired Meakin & Midwinter (Holdings) Ltd and became associated, as a designer, with Federated Potteries Ltd.

  • Federated Potteries continued to manufacture some of the popular patterns of their individual manufacturers, retaining trade names such Royal Tudor (from Barker Bros and Grindley). 

  • Roy Midwinter Design Studio designed some stunning patterns for Federated Potteries as the  Safari, Banjo, Calypso, Fireball and Tropicana. 

  • Around 1985 a range of patterns under the 'HOUZE' name were produced. 

  • The assets of Federated Potteries were dispersed in 1987 and in January 1988 the management of Grindley's purchased the business and recommenced trading under the W. H. Grindley & Co. Ltd name, Cartwright & Edwards was brought by the Coloroll Ceramics Group.

 Royal Tudor was a trade name of Baker Bros, the name ROYAL TUDOR continued to be used by successor businesses including Grindley of Stoke (1972-1982) and Federated Potteries (1982-87)
