China manufacturer at the Stanley Works, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, England.

In 1898 the two brothers R. H. and S. L. Plant acquired the Stanley works in Bagnall Street, Longton and formed the firm of Plant Brothers.
This venture produced "good quality, plainly banded domestic china".
There was a change of direction when Harold Plant, son of R. H. Plant secured the services of Joshua Mellor, in his day a prominent artist and appointed him Art Director and Designer.
In 1912 the Plant company name was changed to the New Chelsea Porcelain Co. It was announced that "The New Chelsea Porcelain Co., Bagnall-street, Longton, have appointed Mr. C. E. Bevington, their representative for London, and have their samples on show at Buchanan buildings, Holborn-circus, E.C. Their principal lines are tea and breakfast ware" (Pottery Gazette, Aug 1, 1912).
Under the Wartime Concentration Scheme of 1941 R. H. and S. L. Plant were designated a nucleus firm and the New Chelsea Porcelain Co. Ltd. was concentrated at their Tuscan Works as were the Sterling Pottery Co.
The New Chelsea Porcelain Co. ltd., was selected to exhibit ware at the 1946 'Britain Can Make It' national exhibition of design.
There was a close relationship between R. H. and S. L. Plant and the New Chelsea Porcelain Co. - In the 1941 and 1951 Pottery Gazette H. J. Plant was listed at Managing Director of both companies.
In 1951 the company was renamed the New Chelsea China Co. Ltd.
In 1957 the New Chelsea China Co. Ltd acquired the business of Jackson & Gosling Ltd. (trade name 'Grosvenor China' and by 1960 the Jackson & Gosling business moved to the New Chelsea China Companies' Chelson Street works. This was the same Stanley Works where the business first started - in the early 1950s Bagnall Street was renamed to Chelson Street.
On 1961 a newly formed company acquired the Jackson & Gosling business and took over the New Chelsea China Co. Ltd's Chelson Street Works. This new company was called Grosvenor China Ltd and they operated from 1961 to 1969.

New Chelsea Porcelain Co exhibitions in 1913

In April 1913 King George and Queen Mary visited Stoke-on-Trent and an exhibition of ware from many pottery companies was hosted in the King's Hall Stoke.

"The New Chelsea Porcelain Co., Longton, showed some very good reproductions of Bristol. Plymouth and Lowestoft tea and breakfast services, and many ornamental pieces were represented, and one of the tea services, made expressly for Harrods, was accepted by Her Majesty.

Replicas of patterns in the various museums were shown, the originals having been placed at the service of Mr. J. R. Mellor, the company’s managing director, by the Curators of the South Kensington and British Museums. The exhibit included a very fine reproduction of the old Powder Blue."

At the 1913 Ghent International Exhibition, Belgium "The New Chelsea Porcelain Co., of Longton, reproduce antique Chinese decorations, and repeat some old-fashioned chap-book prints in early styles, the "dairy-maids and shepherds" being a typical instance." They were awarded a Gold Medal for their exhibits.
